For those who are looking to get a jump start on their 2024 reading list, actress Reese Witherspoon is here to help. To kick off the new year, the Legally Blonde alum has officially chosen her book club pick for the month and it’s titled First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston.

The novel (which just hit bookstore shelves on January 2) is apparently a must-read thriller that the 47-year-old actress had a hard time putting down. Witherspoon shared her pick in a video she posted to social media earlier this week. In the video uploaded to her personal IG account (as well as the official Reese’s Book Club page), Witherspoon starts off by wishing her book club members a happy new year.

“Happy New Year everybody!” she says in the clip. “I have the greatest book to share with you. It is our 91st Reese’s Book Club Pick, can you believe it?” Then The Morning Show star gives a quick synopsis of the book, which follows a woman named Evie Porter, who lives a double life to “infiltrate people’s lives” and “execute takedowns” whenever her boss says to.

For Witherspoon, this was such a “fun read” filled with “so many twists and turns.” In the caption, the mother of three shared what else she loved about the book. “This fast-paced read has everything you could want in a thriller: secret identities, a mysterious boss and a cat & mouse game that kept me guessing the whole way through,” the Cruel Intentions actress wrote. “I did NOT expect that ending… discuss with us at #reesesbookclub all month long!”

ICYDK: Witherspoon first launched her book club in May 2017. Her very first book club pick was titled Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman. Since then, her book club has grown in popularity and has featured authors such as ​​Delia Owens, Celeste Ng and more.
