Reese Witherspoon Reveals the Sunscreen She Can’t Live Without for Youthful Skin at 44

Reese Witherspoon just shared the secret to her radiant complexion at 44. On Wednesday, The Little Fires Everywhere star did a Q&A in her Instagram Stories, where she opened up about beauty tips, starting out her acting career, and even who she was named after.

Prior to the Q&A, Witherspoon shared a post encouraging her fans to ask questions. “How are you still looking like a teenager??” one fan jokingly commented on the photo. In her Instagram Stories, Witherspoon finally addressed her youthful look when another person once again asked “How do you not age!?!”

Her answer was simple: “Sunscreen… lots of it.”

In February, Witherspoon revealed the exact sunscreen she loves and why in an Instagram Story. Her go-to? Elizabeth Arden’s Prevage City Smart SPF 50 Hydrating Shield, a dermatologist-recommended mineral sunscreen with a natural tint to smooth out the skin. The formula also packs tons of antioxidants for extra protection. (Full disclosure: Witherspoon has long been an ambassador for the brand.)

“This is a really great one because it has a pretty tint to it,” she said in the video, per HelloGiggles. “It’s so important to wear sunscreen every single day, especially in the car.”

Apparently, she wasn’t always so conscious about protecting her skin. The actress told Harper’s Bazaar that, when she was a teenager, she would lay out in the sun and apply “all kinds” of tanning products.

“When I was 18 years old a make-up artist on set said, ‘Oh my God, you can’t do that to your skin.’ I didn’t understand, and she explained it to me that it’s actually damage when you’re getting tan and freckles—the kind of freckles that I get are actually sun damage—and so I started wearing sunscreen from then on,” she said. “I made sure to pass that onto my kids. I’m all over them about sunscreen, I’m sure I drive them crazy.”

She also told the outlet she aims for beauty from the inside out. “I try to look holistically. I do think what you ingest plays a big part in how your skin looks,” she said. In addition to staying hydrated, exercising regularly, and following a basic skincare routine, she also drinks a green smoothie with romaine lettuce, spinach, apples, and banana every day.
