Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington Threw a New Year’s Party at the Emmys 2020
Kerry Washington and Reese Witherspoon just said what we’re all thinking at the Emmys 2020: F-U to this year.
For anyone who’s beyond ready for 2020 to be over, you’ll appreciate Witherspoon and Washington’s bit. The Little Fires Everywhere actors gathered with their cast and crews for a socially distant party to celebrate the Emmys, which are virtual this year. (LFE is a nominated show.) They decided to have fun with their party’s theme, making it a New Year’s Eve bash, complete with 2021 hats and glasses.
Why are they celebrating NYE several months early, you ask? “We’re ready for this year to be over,” Witherspoon said. Yup! Agreed!
They even did a little midnight countdown. It was hilarious and, honestly, cathartic. I cannot wait to count down the end of this year for real.
“If reese witherspoon and kerry washington say 2020 is over then it’s over,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Reese witherspoon and kerry washington are my new favorite duo #emmys,” posted another. Someone else wrote, “oh to be at reese’s and kerry’s new years party.”
This dialog between Washington, Kimmel, and Witherspoon was particularly iconic:
Little Fires Everywhere was nominated for several Emmys this year, including outstanding lead actress in a limited series or movie for Washington.
“Every episode, it’s ambiguous,” Witherspoon said about LFE to Variety. “You check your biases and then you also identify with certain people and then the next episode you’re like, ‘Wait, no.’ So we wanted to deliberately always switch points of view.
“We just want people watching and talking,” Washington also told Variety. “Not with any particular agenda, but just watching and talking because these characters are kind of diving into the complexity of their lives, and we want other people to be open to thinking about that for themselves.”
