Last month, Ree Drummond shared her beloved Chicken Spaghetti Casserole recipe that is adored by fans. So we were excited to see that the Pioneer Woman is back again with another chicken dinner recipe that we're ready to try.

In a recent Instagram video, Drummond showed how she whips up her Peach-Whiskey Barbecue Chicken, which she describes as a "winner of a chicken dinner."

"Chicken thighs, onion, whiskey, barbecue sauce, garlic, peach preserves, Worcestershire, peaches … serve over mashed potatoes or just eat it by itself!" Drummond wrote in the caption of the video. "Sometimes I'll remove the chicken and reduce the sauce to thicken, but I was too impatient for that this time."

Here's how to make the comforting dinner dish that says goodbye to summer and hello to fall.

Here are the ingredients you'll need to make this recipe, which yields 6 servings:

  • 12 whole chicken thighs, bone-in, skin-on

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 1 yellow onion, diced

  • 1.5 cups whiskey

  • 4 cups barbecue sauce

  • 1 cup peach preserves

  • ½ cup water

  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

  • 4 cloves garlic, peeled

  • 4 peaches, pitted and sliced

  • 3 green onions, sliced thin for serving

After preheating your oven to 300 degrees, heat your oil and butter in a large rimmed skillet or pot on medium-high heat. Make sure your pot or pan of choice can fit the chicken thighs and is oven-safe.

Add 4 chicken thighs at a time to the large pan, each seasoned with salt and pepper beforehand. Once both sides of the chicken are browned, remove from the heat and set aside, cooking the rest of the chicken thighs until all are done.

Dispose of half of the grease from the pan before returning it to the heat. Add your diced onion to the pan and cook for two minutes while stirring. Then, pour whiskey into the pot—be careful if you're using a gas stovetop! Stir in and let the whiskey reduce for two more minutes before adding in the barbecue sauce, peach preserves, Worcestershire sauce, garlic cloves and water. In the video, Drummond seasoned the mixture with salt and garlic powder before combining it with half of her sliced peaches.

Once everything is mixed together, return your cooked chicken to the pan, skin-up. Drummond topped off the chicken with the rest of her peach slices before covering the pot with a lid. Cook in the oven for 90 minutes.

You can eat as is or serve the main dish with a side like mashed potatoes, recommended by Drummond. We think our Creamy Make-Ahead Mashed Potatoes can help keep this delicious dinner simple.

Since this chicken skillet only requires one pot, expect simple cleanup alongside mouthwatering flavors. For more easy chicken dinner recipes, check out these cozy one-pot chicken dinners to make this fall.
