This Redditor’s Spongebob Meme Makeup Is the Most Genius Response to Criticism I’ve Ever Seen

If you've ever visited the MakeupAddiction subreddit, then you're aware of just how many folks (i.e. thousands) use the platform as a means of self-expression and to garner feedback on their work. Unfortunately, however, the outlet isn't without its fair share of makeup-hating trolls — many of whom spew negative and highly unnecessary vitriol that can make even those with the thickest of skin feel fed up. Speaking of which, recently, one Redditor who goes by Chibbayyyy got so frustrated that she decided to hand it back to her hater, and she did so in the best way ever: with more makeup.

Maria Seraphina is the brilliant voice behind Chibbayyyy, an account she uses to post outlandish — not to mention incredibly impressive — eye looks that feature unconventional accents, such as caricatures of cats, Pokemon, and even Yoda from Star Wars. So when one anonymous Redditor wouldn't stop leaving hate comments on her posts, she took it upon herself to fight back with a special look inspired by the bully.

"When I first posted my looks on Reddit, it blew up. I would get a few thousand ‘upvotes’ and a ton of positive comments, but there was always this one person who wouldn’t like it, which is fine because people are entitled to their own opinions and taste in makeup, but in this case it was more of the toxicity that they were giving off," Seraphina tells Allure of how the situation started. "Because my makeup looks are not very ‘traditional’ in a sense, this person would comment on multiple posts saying that my looks aren’t considered makeup, that they're very childish, comments with the eye-rolling emoji, etc.," she explains, adding that one comment in particular that stuck out to her was "You're shit at makeup."

Seraphina was taken aback by the rude comment, especially considering how much time and energy she puts into her art. "I spend a lot of time trying to perfect my technique and I have enough self-respect to say that I am not ‘shit’ at makeup, so a couple of nights later when my phone lit up and showed the same person’s username, I decided I was going to respond in the best way I know how: through my makeup," Seraphina explains via email. "I wanted to prove the person wrong so I incorporated a few different techniques in one look including carved brows, rainbow crease ombré effect, seamless blending, a cut crease, and my favourite: the Spongebob mockery meme drawn with liquid lipsticks with a caption following my eyebrows that reads, 'YoU’rE sH!T aT mAkEuP'."

Unsurprisingly, the post garnered quite a few reactions from fellow Redditors, all of whom applauded the move. "People hate because their life sucks or they’re jealous. It’s obvious that you’ve got some skills! I’m glad you didn’t take the hatred to heart, 👍🏼" writes one user, kletskopke. Another person's comment reads, "I honestly don't know what that person was thinking! You're obviously very talented and also great use of this meme! 😆"

Seraphina says this was her way of channeling a negative situation into something positive rather than moping about it. We applaud a positivity flex. It's never easy dealing with online trolls who don't realize the effects their words have on people, but luckily, in this case, she was able to get the last laugh. "It turned out perfect," she says. Hell yes, it did.
