A Reddit User Used Too Faced Born This Way Foundation to Cover Up Her Sunburn

Find out why this Reddit user's sunburn coverup hack — which requires Too Faced's Born This Way Foundation — isn't as safe as it sounds.

Too Faced is known and loved in the beauty community for its holographic lip products (ahem, Unicorn Tears), peachy palettes, and deliciously named products (Chocolate Brow-nie brow pencils, anyone?). But apparently — at least according to Reddit — some of the cosmetics brand's lineup is so multifaceted it can be used to completely conceal sun damage. (Yes, seriously.)

Earlier today, Reddit user tryingwithmarkers shared a before-and-after photo of herself with — and without — a full face of Too Faced's Born This Way Foundation, demonstrating how well the liquid foundation "covered her sunburn." The side-by-side image, which shows tryingwithmarkers with a bright red (and awfully painful-looking sunburn) on the left, and a smooth, filter-like canvas on the right, proves just how well Too Faced's makeup completely covered up redness in the skin.

We're big fans of Too Faced's Born This Way Foundation — which, btw, in a few short months will be offered in even more shade options #inclusivity — for its ability to completely cover underlying redness and blur imperfections while still allowing the skin to breathe. But it should be noted that no matter how well a foundation conceals sun damage, as tryingwithmarkers proved, it's actually not the first step you should take to help soothe sunburnt skin.

As New York City-based dermatologist Debra Jaliman suggests, if you have a sunburn, your first concern should be treating said damage — not concealing it. "It's important to treat the inflammation from the sunburn first," she says. Her top treatment tip? Slathering on the OG of sun-soothing treatments: aloe vera, for its anti-inflammatory properties. But if you're strapped for resources, Jaliman also recommends a few DIY treatments, including baking soda mixed with water. "The mix has has a pH level of 5.5 just as your skin, which means it would balance the pH of burned skin," she says. "You can use a milk compress or apply plain full fat yogurt along the area."

Suffice it to say, there are a number of expert-approved sunburn ailments out there — and not one of them involves a full face of foundation. No matter how good the coverage or filter-like the effect it leaves behind.
