Ah, Reddit. The Internet's dumping grounds for strange, totally-unexpected, and sometimes completely-awesome beauty Qs, trends, and moments. In the last week alone, we've covered users' eccentric tricks for concealing under-eye circles, foundation formulas best for dry skin types, and even the fact that Too Faced's Born This Way Foundation can completely cover up bright-red sunburns. Today's major find? Edible eyeshadow palettes. Well, sort of.

Late Wednesday evening, Reddit user finallyinfinite posted on the MakeupAddiction community, confessing to accidentally swatching the coveted (and deliciously named) Too Faced Chocolate Palette with her — wait for it — mouth. "Today I accidentally found out that the [Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette] actually does taste sweet," she wrote. (Sounds like a similar situation you might remember...)

Confused (just as we were), other users began chiming in with all sorts of questions of concern. Luckily, finallyinfinite didn't take the palette's name as a literal excuse to chow down, as some originally suspected. "I didn't lick it — I ended up with a little of the eyeshadow in my mouth and was very surprised to find out that it was sweet," she says. "It didn't taste bad. I mean, I wouldn't go around eating it, but it was okay."

That sweetness, says cosmetic chemist Ginger King, is the result of one of the product's secret ingredients: saccharin, the same artificial sweetener used in Sweet 'N Low. King best guess is that saccharin isn't included for any cosmetic reason, but instead enhances the consumer's sensorial experience. "[Too Faced] may want to signal the palette as good enough to eat, as the branding is chocolate," she tells Allure. "It looks and tastes — even though not suggested — like the real deal." So what happened to Reddit user finallyinfinite? Not actually such a mistake.

Sweetness aside, we're just going to come out and say it: No, you shouldn't start licking your eyeshadow (um, duh). King says that although there's no major harm that can come from the occasional taste test (again, yikes), be warned that every time you place your tongue on the shadow beds, you're risking contaminating the eye area with your saliva, which can ultimately lead to an infection. We're thinking that might be reason enough to reach for actual chocolate if you're craving a sweet treat.
