No matter how many days you go without shampooing, cleansing and conditioning your strands (and scalp) is important to your overall hair health. But as we all know, there's no one-size-fits-all rule for your hair, and for one Redditor, a big shift in her hair-care routine was what did the trick.

Reddit user Guyamassonora recently shared her tactic for keeping her tight curls silky and smooth — and it turns out, one of the major reasons behind her perfectly moisturized style is conditioner. She leaves it in her hair after shampooing, no rinsing, and has managed to totally transform her hair over the course of two years.

"As it says in the title, I don't rinse out any of my conditioner," she wrote, and mentions that Kinky Curly Knot Today is her go-to. "I have pretty fine hair so I was worried that it would get weighed down, but squishing your hair with an old t-shirt or microfiber towel after you get out of the shower is enough to take care of that."

And now, after two solid years of treating her hair this way, she swears that the non-rinse treatment has totally changed her hair. To get her shiny style, Guyamassonora says she only adds conditioner and skips shampoo (a.k.a. co-washing) to her strands in the shower once a week: "My curls have so much more definition and shine now." Her biggest tip? "MAKE SURE NO ONE TOUCHES [YOUR] HAIR >:(((." The difference between her before and after makes it clear that the changeup worked for her.

We've seen routines like this for conditioning thicker and coarser hair textures, including many folks with natural hair textures who swear by it. That said, you should probably avoid leaving in your conditioner if you have fine or limp strands since the rich treatment is more likely to weigh thinner hair down than boosting it up. If you want to add a little extra moisture to your hair — no matter your texture or style — follow this quick tip from hairstylist Nathaniel Hawkins. "Apply a hydrating conditioner — made with argan, avocado, or grapeseed oil — generously in long, fluid motions," advises Hawkins. And then wait at least two minutes before rinsing, as it takes that long for conditioners to adhere to hair.
