Rebellious artist’s work highlighted in new exhibit at Nelson-Atkins museum

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The works of a French-American artist is the focus of a new exhibit at the Nelson-Atkins Museum.

Not many people here know Niki de San Fall, but she is famous in France. She spent more than 40 years creating bright, bold art that rebelled against society by empowering women.

Most of the art in this exhibit is on loan from a museum in Nice, France.

The curator of this exhibit says as a young boy, he had a bad attitude about art. But then he saw one of Niki’s sculptures, and it inspired him to pursue an art career.

“When we heard about this opportunity, we were like, oh my gosh, we have to,” William Keyse Rudolph, the Deputy Director of Curatorial Affairs, said.

“We have to, we have to, we have to, because for me, it kind of reminds me of one of the first times that I really was excited by art.”
