Rebel Wilson Explains Why She Chose to Use a Surrogate to Have Her Daughter

Rebel Wilson is opening up about her decision to have her daughter, Royce, via surrogate.

In a new interview with Today.com's Rachel Paula Abrahamson, Wilson revealed that, when she decided to freeze her eggs at almost 40 years old, she only ended up with a singular embryo, thanks to a combination of her age and polycystic ovary syndrome.

Because she only had one shot at success, she was hesitant to carry the pregnancy herself when she was ready to become a mom a couple of years later.

"Physically I could have carried the baby, but there was a much higher statistical chance it would work with a surrogate," she told the publication.

Clearly, she made the right choice, as she welcomed her daughter in November of 2022.

The babe is just now starting to speak, with her first word being "mom." Wilson, now 43, and her fiancée, Ramona Agruma, 39, haven't yet decided what Royce will call each of them.

“It’s because my mother wants to be called mama. She doesn’t want to be grandma,” Wilson shared. “So we haven’t worked out what our names are gonna be.”

For her part, Wilson hopes to be either mommy or mum.

The sweet little family has already taken the tot on her first vacation, where she took her first dip in the ocean earlier this year. Apparently, that speed comes from her mum's childhood Down Under, where kids learn to swim very young.

“I was like, 6 months when I was thrown into a pool — safely, of course,” Wilson told the publication. “Roycie loves the water. She’s literally in there swimming with Ramona every single day.”
