Gunfights, bounty hunters, and big spaceships blowing up: there’s a lot to digest in the latest trailer for Rebel Moon, the latest film from Zack Snyder (Justice League, 300).

The trailer dropped as part of the Netflix Geeked Week 2023 (here's everything worth watching).

The film stars Sofia Boutella as Kora, a stranger with a mysterious past. After crash landing on a moon in the furthest reaches of the universe, she must lead a peaceful settlement of farmers in a fight against Fra Fee’s tyrannical Regent Balisarius.

While the trailer shows her in full-on hero mode riding flying alien beasts and firing laser guns in super slow-motion, she doesn’t get all the fun. We also see epic ground wars, a laser sword fight, and a man leaping to impale his staff into a spaceship.

Netflix

According to Netflix’s official description, we’ll see Kora “assemble a small band of warriors who share a common need for redemption along the way: Kai (Charlie Hunnam), a pilot and gun for hire; General Titus (Djimon Hounsou), a legendary commander; Nemesis (Doona Bae), a master swordswoman; Tarak (Staz Nair), a captive with a regal past; and Milius (E. Duffy), a resistance fighter. Back on Veldt, Jimmy (voiced by Anthony Hopkins), an ancient mechanized protector hiding in the wings, awakens with a new purpose.”

Yes, Anthony Hopkins is voicing a robot.

Netflix is positioning Rebel Moon as its very own Star Wars, calling it “a 2-part movie event decades in the making.” It’s actually the first part of a two-part story. The first, Rebel Moon: Child of Fire hits Netflix December 22, while part two, Rebel Moon: The Scargiver, premiers April 19, 2024.
