The real threat to America and Christianity

We live in historically unprecedented times and stand at the threshold of what will prove to be a defining moment in American history. As Christians who love this nation and proclaim Christ’s sovereignty over our lives in this nation, the way we collectively approach the defining months in our nation’s eminent future will do more than define the future of America but will also express the authenticity of Christian witness.

Today we live in the midst of a partisan and politicized tension of mutual self-destruction that has been religiously hijacked in the sinful justification of power, control, and domination. The problem is that as long as Christians and Americans take delusional sides against those with whom they legitimately disagree, evil wins while Christianity and America lose.

On one hand, many believe that a criminally minded, immoral, racially motivated narcissistic former president who maliciously chose to thwart democracy with unproven and fraudulent claims of a stolen election who now faces 91 felony counts, leads the Republican party with a destructive agenda that will destroy America in his lust for power and disregard genuine American freedom and constitutional justice.

On the other hand, many believe that the same former president is a victim of partisan witch hunts by unpatriotic enemies and antichristian secularists determined to prevent America from becoming great and using immoral legal maneuvers to discredit an American patriot who seeks only to restore the nation’s former prominence, law, order, power, and divine greatness.

Adding fuel to this partisan and divisive firestorm of modern American politics is the reality that adherents to both sides of this volatile divide are determined to not only defend their own perception of absolute righteousness and the legitimacy of their cause, both are unwilling—or perhaps unable—to even comprehend why the presumed idiots on the other side could possibly believe and act as they do. As a result, we stand today as a nation so bitterly divided that no matter what happens in the upcoming presidential election, the consequences for America could be ultimately devastating and destructive.

In the hypothetical scenario that the previous president wins the next election, given the bitter divides and understandable opposition to his legitimacy as a presidential candidate, the resulting outrage and uprising in rejection to his leadership could well fracture this nation to the point of self-destruction. If that happens, America and Christ lose!

In the alternative hypothetical scenario that the previous president loses the next election, given the bitter divides and understandable opposition to the challenges to his legitimacy as a presidential candidate, the resulting bitter divides and extremist opposition to his loss could well fracture this nation to the point of self-destruction. If that happens, America and Christ lose.

The reality is that the former president is a threat to America’s future. The threat is not so much his alleged crimes, but his complete inability to unite a nation divided, heal a nation which has fractured over hate and fear, and his determination to place his own passion for political power over and above the sanctity of the America as a sovereign nation filled with diverse people committed to freedom and justice. This is not a partisan issue, but a matter of Christian authenticity. Jesus warned his followers of the dangers faced by a nation divided. Whether or not the former president is guilty or innocent—a witch hunt victim or a felony criminal—the sanctity of America depends on an honest, prayerful, and careful consideration of his divisiveness. The conflict-ridden nature of the former president’s very nature is a threat to America.
