The Real Story of Nick Godejohn’s Arrest For Masturbating In McDonald’s Is Really, Uh, Something
On the latest episode of Hulu's The Act, it's revealed that Gypsy Rose Blanchard's boyfriend, Nick Godejohn, had a criminal record before killing her mom Dee Dee.
This really happened-Nick Godejohn was arrested for masturbating in McDonald's for nine hours in 2013.
Nick was charged with disorderly conduct and carrying a concealed weapon.
OMG, you guys. If you’ve been watching The Act on Hulu, you know that the show is freaking insane, made even more intense by the fact that it’s based on real life.
Well, in the most recent episode, viewers learned that Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s boyfriend Nick Godejohn had a brief run-in with the law before he was arrested and charged with murdering Gypsy’s mom Dee Dee. (Gypsy, if you remember, was a victim of Munchausen by proxy, meaning her mother Dee Dee convinced her and others that Gypsy was mentally disabled and terminally ill.)
In the show, it's revealed that Nick was once busted for masturbating in a McDonald’s for nine hours. His response to this on the show? "That was a misunderstanding."
Here’s what really happened, and *spoiler* it’s pretty weird.
Back in 2013, Godejohn (who was 23 at the time) was accused of watching porn at a McDonald’s for nearly nine hours, according to a report from Patch. Customers spotted him with his hands down his pants and called the police (as one does). He then told police that, while he looked like he was engaging in self-love in a public space, he was actually just scratching himself.
Police didn’t buy it, and he was charged with carrying a concealed weapon (he had a large folding knife in his pocket) and disorderly conduct.

Oh, and Nick was apparently also into necrophilia, i.e. having sex with corpses.
On The Act, the police brought up Nick's previous criminal record in the context of questioning him about having sex with Dee Dee's dead body (a.k.a. necrophilia). Nick's alleged interest in necrophilia also came up during the HBO documentary, Mommy Dead and Dearest.
Then, Gypsy said, "I made a deal with him. I'd let him rape me and then he wouldn't do that to my mom." So, after Godejohn killed Dee Dee, the two ended up having sex on Gypsy’s bed with Dee Dee’s body in the next room, according to 20/20.
This also came up during Godejohn's trial, per the Springfield News-Leader. Nick’s lawyer Dewayne Perry argued that he should get a new trial because, he said, the state should not have been able to present evidence that Nick considered raping Dee Dee on the night she was killed. (The judge denied the motion.)
You seriously can’t make this stuff up.
