  • It was recently revealed that Riverdale costars Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart ended their two-year relationship.

  • Insiders close to the couple reportedly said that the split was expected, due to their “very different” personalities and lifestyles.

  • The two are still keeping things amicable and professional, if not a little awkward, as evident by their civilized Comic Con appearance together last weekend.

We’ve experienced the heartbreak of Zanessa, the gut-wrenching loss of Brangelina, and the tender absence of Jelena. Now, Riverdale costars Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart, one of Gen Z’s favorite celebrity couples, have also separated, leaving a Bughead-sized hole in all of our hearts.

While we’ll never know what specifics led to the ultimate split between Sprouse and Reinhart–who respectively play Jughead Jones and Betty Cooper on the Netflix series–an insider revealed to People that, “Things have felt super heavy in the relationship for a while, and it got to be too much.” Despite the sad end to their two-year relationship, the source added, “They’re both very professional though and trying to be as amicable and friendly as possible.”

The two were last spotted together in a joint appearance at Comic Con in San Diego last weekend, along with the rest of the cast. Reinhart even poked fun at Sprouse in an Instagram post after the event.

“Please don’t put me between these two ever again,” Reinhart joked in the caption, as the photo featured her sitting between Sprouse and fellow costar KJ Apa.

For those of you still hoping for a reconciliation, People’s source also divulged, “Their friends didn’t really expect them to last in the long-run. [...] At the end of the day, their personalities are very different and their lifestyles often clashed.”

Both actors are intensely private about their personal life, and both have unsurprisingly not commented on the spectacle.

"I'm not okay talking about my relationship," Reinhart told BAZAAR.com in a feature last year. “I'm not going to tell you my love story. That's just not appropriate right now."

At least you can still see the duo together onscreen. The Riverdale cast started filming season four earlier this month, and you can expect to see it hit a laptop screen near you in the coming months.
