The real reason Selena Gomez skipped the Grammys, despite being nominated

The 2022 Grammy Awards came to Las Vegas last night, and the celebs were out in force. We saw hilarious moments from the likes of Doja Cat, plus some intense PDA from Addison Rae and boyfriend Omer Fedi.

However, there were also some notable absences, with Olivia Rodrigo apparently banned from Spotify's Grammys pre-party, and Taylor Swift skipping the ceremony despite being nominated.

Another face missing from the Grammys red carpet was of course Selena Gomez, and there's been much speculation as to the reason why the singer wasn't present, despite being nominated for an award.

Selena was nominated for Best Latin Pop Album for Revelación - her first ever Grammy nom, making her absence even more notable. Still, the Latin Pop Album win was actually announced during the Grammys preshow, with Alex Cuba picking up the award for Mendó instead.

As for the reasons behind Selena's decision to skip the show, some fans had previously speculated that it could be to do with ex Justin Bieber attending. However, sources have now claimed that it's actually nothing to do with Justin - according to celebrity gossip Instagram account Deux Moi.

One follower sent in a query asking, "I've heard that Selena is not going to the Grammys too.. Could Justin be the reason??"

In response to the question, Deux Moi shared a tip from an anonymous source claiming that Justin actually wasn't attending until the last minute. They wrote, "She is not attending!!! We were looking to do something with her, but then again Justin also wasn’t attending until last night."

Deux Moi then replied, "So nothing to do with him?" with the source reiterating, "Yeah, nothing to do with him."

So, while Selena's absence doesn't seem to be about Justin, reports have claimed that it's simply down to the fact that she's filming season 2 of mystery-comedy series Only Murders in the Building in New York City, while the Grammys took place across the country in Las Vegas.

Speaking about receiving her first Grammys nomination for Revelación back in December, Selena told Entertainment Tonight, "I cried like a little baby. I was very excited. I worked really hard on that project, so it was a lovely surprise. I’m very excited!"

Here's hoping we'll see her walk the red carpet next year.
