The Real-Life Victorian Mansion That Starred in HBO’s ‘Sharp Objects’ Is Headed to Auction

Even though HBO’s acclaimed 2018 miniseries Sharp Objects took place in Missouri, scenes of the Crellin family estate were actually shot at a mansion in northern California. Now, the Redwood Valley property, about two hours north of San Francisco, is up for auction and set to go under the hammer with DeCaro Auctions International next month.

Known as The East Ranch, the 1,745-acre property is anchored by a Queen Anne Victorian-style mansion that was built in the late 1990s. Interestingly, the 7,500-square-foot abode—everything from the floor plan down to the materials and furnishings—was built as a replica of a Victorian home in San Francisco that was completed in 1885, notes the listing. In addition to the main pad, the spread also sports a three-car garage, a 250-square-foot workshop, and a gazebo.

The Victorian-style residence that appeared in Sharp Objects starring Amy Adams is up for auction.

Elsewhere, the vast property comprises a nearly 5,000-square-foot barn, seven natural springs, and six ponds—one of which spans 18 acres and features a suspension bridge. Of course, being in wine country, there are 50 to 75 acres of land ready for cultivation.

“According to one of the caretakers at the property, the series was shot in Georgia and at the house on East Road in the summer of 2017,” John Torrey, director of sales and business development at Decaro’s, told The New York Post. “He said the producers chose the house because it was this beautiful Victorian revival home in a remote location, and with large areas for staging. The house was actually painted its current shade of blue for the filming.”

The real-life home is located in California, not Missouri where the 2018 miniseries was set.

The residence holds five bedrooms, four bathrooms, a parlor, a formal dining room, and a chef’s kitchen. Other highlights of the home include the library, which is decked out with custom woodwork and an etched glass skylight.

“As DeCaro continues to add luxury properties to our distinctive and celebrated portfolio, The East Ranch will be sold at a Truly Absolute Auction, and is certainly an opportunity not to be missed,” Daniel DeCaro, founder and president of DeCaro Auctions International, said in a press statement.

The live, no-reserve auction will kick off on February 3 at 11 am at 11531 East Road. Private previews of the home will start on January 12 and are available on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 pm to 4 pm.
