Ruiz is well-known for his work capturing some of Hollywood’s most notable celebrities including Billy Porter, Neil Patrick Harris, Katy Perry, Jim Parsons, and thousands of others, as well as leading figures in male fitness.

“I admire men who have sculpted their bodies into works of art,” Ruiz explained in a statement. “It takes incredible skill and knowledge to form human tissue to near perfection. Photographing their work is quite gratifying to me.”

Ruiz is also an animal rescuer who uses the calendar to raise funds for worthy causes. He’s using this 2024 edition of the Hunks & Hounds calendar to raise funds for the no-kill shelters of Louie’s Legacy Animal Rescue, which was also the beneficiary of the first Hunks & Hounds calendar.

"We are so grateful and honored to be chosen again this year to benefit from Mike's incredible work,” Emily Gear, president and founder of Louie’s Legacy Animal Rescue, said in a statement. “His calendars are a really fun and flashy way to bring attention to the sometimes dirty and grueling (but also rewarding) work we do behind the scenes each day. Ten years ago when we did this calendar for the first time, we raised some $80,000 which went straight back into saving more lives.”

“This is the worst year on record for animals being dumped at kill shelters. Up 30 percent from last year,” Ruiz says. “We need all the help we can get.”
