As Outlander prepares to wrap up its story, we're now one step closer to learning more about the history of one of the most romantic characters on television.

Ahead of the series airing season 7 part 2 and working on its final season, fans got an unexpected surprise when the show announced the cast of the prequel, Outlander: Blood of My Blood on Instagram. A photo collage featuring actors Harriet Slater, Jamie Roy, Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine revealed the show is officially filming in Scotland, with the quartet starring as the main leads of the series.

"Big news, Outlander family!" the caption begins. "Meet our fabulous leads for Outlander: #BloodOfMyBlood which is now OFFICIALLY in production in Scotland... Join me in giving them a warm fandom welcome!"

But that's not all — the February 5 post went on to drop a major update on what the Outlander prequel will be about.

"Outlander: Blood of My Blood will explore the lives and relationship of Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie (@_harrietslater) and Brian Fraser (@jamie.roy_), AND the origin story of Claire’s parents, Julia Moriston (@hermionecorfield) and Henry Beauchamp (@jeremy.irvine)," the announcement continued.

"The series will center on these two parallel love stories set in two different time periods, with Jamie’s parents in the early 18th century Scottish Highlands and Claire’s parents in WWI England."

After the news broke, it didn't take long for Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser) to share his excitement about the expansion of his character's story. "So excited!!! What a cast!! 🙌," he replied in the comments.

Of course, longtime viewers were elated over the news as well. "The Frasers AND the Beauchamps!!!! Our favourite collab 😭♥️ welcome to the clan 🙌🔥 we are so happy to have you!!" one person exclaimed on Instagram. "This is so incredibly exciting!!!" another declared. "I can’t believe we’re getting BOTH Claire and Jamie’s parents stories!!! 😭❤️😭❤️ I couldn’t ask for anything more 😭❤️😭❤️," a different follower wrote.

"We’re thrilled to be telling the stories of these two couples," Matthew B. Roberts, showrunner, executive producer and writer on both series told Deadline. "The origins of their relationships explore universal themes that transcend time and we’re so excited for fans to discover and fall in love with these characters and their love stories the way they have with Claire and Jamie."
