Get Ready, ’Cause ‘Riverdale’ Season 5 Part 2 Is Going to Look Super Different

Things I’ve done today: (1) gazed lovingly at my precious, precious sourdough starter bubbles (WHY AREN’T THEY MORE FROTHY?), (2) stared vacantly out the window, (3) donated some money to COVID-19 Delta relief efforts, and (4) completed a deep dive on Riverdale season 5. Because honestly, there are a lot of unanswered questions at the moment, including…Is this season even happening anymore? And yeah, I need answers.

First of All, the Next Part of Season 5 Is Definitely Happening

Riverdale’s fifth season kicked off way back in January 2021. That’s the good news! The bad news is it went on a mini hiatus after “Chapter Eighty-Six: The Pincushion Man” aired, so everyone has had to wait until this month for more episodes.

When does Riverdale come back, you ask? That would be August 11, season 5 part 2’s official release date. Filming got a little complicated due to Hollywood shutting down amid the coronavirus crisis, so we’ll take Riverdale when we can get it. Which brings us to…

Season 4’s Missing Episodes Kicked Off Season 5 Part 1

The show had to shut down last spring because of the pandemic, and they still had a few episodes left to film. Writer Ted Sullivan confirmed on Twitter that those episodes did see the light of day with season 4 wrapping with episode 19. This means season 5 seemingly began with episodes 20 to 22.

The First Scene They Shot Was Very Quintessential Riverdale

After months without Riverdale, this is what the people deserve. Roberto posted a still shot from one of their filming days with a bare KJ Apa in a steam room. Bless this show.

Roberto said, “Annnnnd #Riverdale is back. First scene up of season 5: Archie in a steam room. Even in a Covid world, some things never change…🔥👀🏆💋❤️.”

A Note on the ~Plot~

To be blunt: No one has any idea what’s happening. At least not yet, which makes sense considering season 4 got completely derailed and season 5 got delayed. But a lot of fans think we could get a Chilling Adventures of Sabrina crossover in the near future, so at least there’s that.

Teasers from part 2 also reveal we’ll see more of Toni and her pregnancy and what ends up happening to Jughead after all. Buckle up.

Some Cast Members Are Leaving

While the core cast (aka Archie, Jughead, Betty, and Veronica) will return for season 5, Skeet Ulrich will not. Skeet played Jughead’s dad, F. P. Jones. As of now, it’s unclear how F. P. will be written off the show. But if I had to guess, it’ll probs be murder, because it’s Riverdale.

In a statement to Deadline, Skeet said, “I’m incredibly grateful for the friendships I’ve made on Riverdale, and I will miss seeing everyone on a daily basis. I’m proud to have been part of such a talented group of people, in front of the camera and behind. But I’ve decided that it’s time for me to move on to explore other creative opportunities.”

And Someone Made a Shocking Appearance

We thought Hermione Lodge would be officially booted out of Riverdale, but actress Marisol Nichols made a grand return!

“I had a very long talk with Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, our creator and showrunner of Riverdale, and I’m really proud to announce that Hermione will not only be back for season 5, but she will be back stronger and better than ever,” she told Access.
