Get Ready, Because Charlize Theron Is Making Fishnet Turtlenecks Happen

Charlize Theron doesn't shy away from pulling some seriously bold style moves: She's confidently rocked a bowl cut and has been known to wear dresses that take 1,200 hours to make. So, while it was kind of surprising to see a fishnet shirt (or in this case, turtleneck) pop up on the Palm Springs International Film Festival red carpet, it made sense that Theron was the one pioneering this sexy trend. It's just what she does.

And, perhaps we should all follow in her footsteps. Theron is someone who has been on top of major trends over the past two decades, and this netted piece definitely added a little something extra to her otherwise classic Dior look, which also included a belted, houndstooth bustier, a mid-length skirt, black strappy heels, and jewelry by Delfina Delettrez and Fernando Jorge. Layering fishnet tops under our own dresses and shirts might make them a bit more fun.

Of course, this isn't the first time Theron has been spotted in something like this. The fishnet trend used to be pretty popular in the early '00s, and Theron wore a similar shirt style in 2001 — meaning it might just be another throwback trend to add to our list.

Theron also had the chance to show off her outfit on stage, as the Palm Springs International Film Festival honored her with an International Star Award for her role as Meghan Kelly in the movie Bombshell.

"Weirdly, this is how I introduce myself to strangers, so I’m glad that someone is giving me validation!” she joked to the crowd as she accepted her trophy. "'Hi, Charlize Theron, international star, nice to meet you!' But, seriously, I am truly humbled and so grateful for this acknowledgment. For your recognition of our film, Bombshell. It has been such an insane ride!"
