Read What These Restaurants Had to Say When a Hilarious 'Sign War' Broke Out

A little friendly banter never hurt anyone, right? 😂 Businesses in the small town of Marshfield, Missouri, have recently gone viral after engaging in a hilarious public road sign war.

It all started with a simple yet loaded question when a McDonald's put up a sign asking, "Hey DQ! Do you wanna have a sign war?"

What happened next? Well, the neighboring Dairy Queen accepted the challenge by responding with a sign of their own. "We would but we're 2 busy making ice cream," the fast food chain sassed back.

And, oh, it was on from there. 👀

McDonald's and Dairy Queen were seen going back and forth with the ice cream puns (likely attributed to the long-running joke that the McFlurry machines always seem to be broken), but the fun expanded as other local businesses chimed in.

Gault & Co. Realty LLC innocently made their entrance by putting up a sign that said, "Sign war? We're just here for the show."

"Roses Are Red, Violets Are Blue, We Want In On The Sign War Too…" another business posted.

Some businesses got involved by jumping in on the ice cream maker jokes.

"Ice cream machine broken? We have a loan for that," a local bank, Arvest, wrote. They later put up a creative sign that read, "Just CHECKING in on the sign war..."

The city of Marshfield embraced the community-wide roast by posting about it on their Chamber of Commerce Facebook page. And, they even celebrated the viral sensation, showing everyone that their posts have reached over one million people.

"Thanks to everyone around the U.S. who has shared our little towns sign war," the account posted. "We've all had a lot of fun watching the signs change. Who knew a fun little sign war would bring so many people together!"

Despite the not so subtle banter, it seems the sign war is all in good fun.

Randy Bryant, local director of operations at McDonald's, told Ozarks First: "Marshfield is such a close community, we're all like family here. Mario on our team had a great idea to get this all started! He said, 'It's hot, the world is throwing everyone challenges and negativity,' so we all found a way to laugh and have fun as a community. And what's better than an old fashion sign war?"

There's no saying who the winner of the sign war is yet, but we'll be keeping an eye out for more funny road signs from this small town battle. 😂 🙌
