Princess Diana apparently arranged quite a treat for her eldest's seventh birthday. In a newly unearthed 1989 letter, currently up for auction at William George, the Princess of Wales personally thanks the sergeant who arranged a motorcycle display for Prince William's special day.

"Dear Sgt. Plumb, It was so very kind of you and your team to have come here today on William’s birthday," the handwritten note reads (see photos of it here). "I cannot begin to tell you what pleasure the display gave to all those little people and their mothers!"

It continues, "I know how particularly busy you all are at the moment, so it meant even more to us that you and the motorbike boys were able to take part in the birthday celebrations! This comes with our warmest possible thanks." The letter is signed, "Yours sincerely Diana, William, Harry."

Diana's personal note, written on Kensington Palace stationery, is being auctioned off along with the accompanying envelope, addressed to Sergeant Plumb in her handwriting. Also included in the lot is a lapel badge given to Plumb by a chauffeur at St. James Palace, and a typed letter from Diana’s Lady-in-Waiting, Ann Beckwith-Smith, to Chief Superintendent Wigglesworth, the sergeant's superior.

"The Princess of Wales was enormously grateful to Sgt. Plumb and his team for ensuring that Prince William’s seventh birthday was such a very special occasion and the display was enjoyed by grown-ups and children alike," Beckwith-Smith's note reads.

The auction is scheduled to conclude on April 23; the current bid is £7,500 ($9,388), and the next minimum bid is £8,000 ($10,013), should you have several thousand dollars burning a hole in your pocket.
