It was a great year for movies, which means that this year's 96th Academy Awards will be quite the thrill! Along with the many nominations for best director, costume design, visual effects, and musical score, there's one actress in particular that we can't help but cheer for: Da'Vine Joy Randolph!

Da'Vine played Mary Lamb in The Holdovers, a role that has seen her essentially take home every accolade in the supporting actress category at all of the major award shows this year. We're talking Golden Globes, Critics Choice, BAFTA, and Screen Actors Guild awards. She's also up for an Oscar for Best Supporting actress at this year's ceremony. (Phew! Hope she has a sturdy shelf to hold all of those trophies.)

While the Christmas movie—which isn't necessarily as cheerful as other classic holiday flicks—has certainly put her on the map of mainstream stars, Da'Vine actually has a career that spans over a decade. Hint: you may or may not recognize her as the voice in some of the best animated kids movies. (More on that later). Read on for everything you need to know about Da'Vine Joy Randolph, including info about her career, personal life, and more!

What are some other Da'Vine Joy Randolph movies and TV shows?

Da'Vine isn't a stranger to being behind the camera or the big-screen in general. She's been in the game for over a decade, starting her career in theater. In 2012, she starred as Oda Mae Brown for the Broadway production of Ghost the Musical. Da'Vine was exceptional on stage, and she even earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical.

After this stint, Da'Vine went on to garner some movie and TV acting credits. Some of her works include, Mother of George (2013), Selfie (2014), This Is Us (2016), and Empire (2017-18). She was also the voice of Mama Luna in the popular kid's movie Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022).

Her breakthrough role came in 2019 with the Netflix movie, Dolemite Is My Name, where she played Lady Reed. The movie, which is a comedy but also based on a true story, starred Eddie Murphy as real-life comedian, Rudy Ray Moore.

This leads us to the 2023 film, The Holdovers, the movie that seriously changed the game for her! While Paul Giamatti is the lead of this heart-wrenching (and somewhat heartwarming) story about a high school teacher and the impact he has on a troublesome boy, it's Da'Vine who stole the show with her stellar performance. We just can't wait to see what she does in her future projects!
