Razzies 2018 nominations: Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp up for 'Worst Actor' trophy

For anyone who finds the Hollywood awards season a little bit smug and self-congratulatory, good news: the Golden Raspberry Awards (or "Razzies") are back to lower the tone. Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp and Emma Watson are in the running for these annual anti-Oscars, doled out to the worst films of the year.

The full list of nominees, announced today, also includes Jennifer Lawrence, Russell Crowe and Javier Bardem.

Transformers: The Last Knight leads the pack with nominations in eight categories, while Fifty Shades of Grey sequel Fifty Shades Darker has seven, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge has three.

Founded in 1996, the Razzies are voted for by around 1,000 paying members of the Golden Rasberry Foundation, and generally held the day before the Oscars.

Nominees rarely attend the ceremony, with a few memorable exceptions. Sandra Bullock turned up in person to collect her Worst Actress trophy for All About Steve in 2010, while in 2005 Halle Berry accepted the Worst Actress award for Catwoman, by delivering a spoof of the speech she gave that same weekend at the Academy Awards (where she won an Oscar for Monster's Ball). 

The winners of the 2018 Razzies will be announced on March 3.
