If you're from New York City, you've probably encountered rodents here and there, such as the notorious New York City street rats and mice, but rats can also be kept as pets. And they're quite cute. Don't believe me?

How cute is he?

In case you didn't know, domesticated rats are highly social animals, as they form strong bonds with their human caregivers and with other rats if kept in pairs or groups. They are known for their playful and curious nature.

Clearly, this one is like a fluffy puppy!

However, just like any other pet, each rat has its own personality and preferences. That being said, some rats may enjoy belly rubs more than others. Therefore, it's important to pay attention to your rat's reactions and respect their boundaries.

It's safe to say that this TikToker knows rats pretty well.

Just like with dogs and cats, it's all about building trust and a strong bond with your rat through positive interactions, including playtime and gentle petting, which is the key to having a happy and content pet rat.

Rats that are well-socialized and feel secure around their owners are more likely to enjoy physical contact, including belly rubs.

Look at those tiny teeth!

He sure is comfortable just lying on his back, exposing his belly, which is quite a vulnerable position for many animals.

This makes me want to get a fluffy pet rat just so I can give it belly rubs!
