Their popular track “Here Comes Goodbye” suddenly carries new meaning for Rascal Flatts. On Jan. 7, the band visited CBS This Morning where they announced their upcoming, final tour: The Rascal Flatts Farewell: Life Is A Highway Tour.

Band members Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus, and Joe Don Rooney were hesitant to use the word “breakup” when they referred to the upcoming dismissal. Rather, they said they’re using 2020 to celebrate how far they’ve come.

Wait, so what does “farewell” mean? Is Rascal Flatts breaking up?

“Farewell means we haven’t really had a break in 20 years, you know, or even had time to reflect,” LeVox said on CBS. “Our fans have given us so much. We’ve achieved so many milestones in our career. When the CBS anchors asked them about future plans, they claimed to not have any.

“We don’t have any plans right now,” DeMarcus said. “We want to take the year and focus on celebration and thanking our fans for 20 wonderful years.” All three of them were quick to shut down any skepticism of a falling out or illness within the band. “Nobody’s sick,” they all chimed. And they reassured everyone that they all still care for one another.

LeVox finally admitted that, frankly, they’re happy with their footprint on country music, and they don’t want to overdo it. “It’s tough, year after year, to outdo the tour that you’ve done previously,” he said. According to their official site, the band has produced 17 number one hits.

Just because they’re taking a step back from their music as a group, doesn’t mean they’re giving up the art all together. “We make music and that’s what we do,” DeMarcus said. “We may do it again someday, collectively. we’re not gonna sign some pact that says we’re never gonna tour again. We all still love each other, but we do make music and we’ll probably make some music individually.”

When is the Rascal Flatts Farewell tour?

The tour will kick off on June 11 at Ruoff Music Center in Indianapolis, Indiana, and it will conclude on Oct. 17 at Coral Sky Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach Florida. The band promised “lots of surprises coming all through the year,” including new music and special guests. Tickets aren’t on sale yet, but you can register as an All Access member to be notified when pre-sale tickets are available. According to CBS, the tickets will also be available as part of the 2020 Live Nation Country Megaticket, which has not yet gone on sale.

“When we started out 20 years ago, we could not imagine all of the people, places and gifts we would encounter,” the announcement on the band’s Instagram read. “As we head out on the Rascal Flatts Farewell - Life is A Highway Tour, there is no sadness. Just new chapters, new journeys, and new beginnings. This year, and this tour, is all about YOU.”
