Rarely Operated Lift Opens At Palisades Tahoe
A two seater at Palisades Tahoe, CA, that rarely operates as you can reach the top via a short hike from High Camp.
But although it rarely runs, the terrain it services is all time, so skiers are stoked that Palisades Tahoe just announced on Instagram, "Broken Arrow terrain opens after a 2” dusting."
With 2 inches in the last day, 19 inches over the last week, and a 67 inch base, it's finally time for everyone to have access to "some of the coolest terrain in Tahoe" despite a below average season of snowfall.
There is 126 inches of snowfall so far, but their average is 400 inches per season.
Although Broken Arrow is especially useful for powder days, it's still a scenic diversion from the rest of the mountain on your average day.
You can reach the top via a short hike from High Camp, but that's not why the lift is often stopped.
According to PeakRankings, the reason is because "the rocky, southeast-facing nature of this terrain means it takes a ton of time to fill in, and during bad seasons, it can be months before the resort drops the rope."
Check out the terrain on a zoomed-in map of Palisades Tahoe below. Broken Arrow is just to the upper left of the center of the below photo.
However, when it does open, it's worth hitting, even though it may not have runs as extreme as runs off the popular KT-22 chairlift, for example.
An independent blog ranking terrain areas of Palisades Tahoe recommends Broken Arrow due to its stunning views. "These advanced and expert trails are bounded by stunning rock formations that make it feel like you’re skiing or riding through a national park."
"Broken Arrow isn’t home to the most extreme terrain at the resort, but the trails can include some sections of cliff drops and straightlining depending on conditions. And since most of these runs lead down to the base, you get to skip a large chunk of the horrendous Mountain Run experience."
That's a reason alone to take Broken Arrow. If you ride it this afternoon today, I'll see you out there!
With KT-22, Headwall, and Broken Arrow open, it's starting to feel like winter around here!
