French Montana ruffled more than a few feathers on Thursday after attempting to clap back at a young woman on Twitter who questioned his relevance.

The former Kardashian beau, who it appears was searching his name on Twitter, saw a tweet from user @artdecoxxx that upset him. “The fact that French Montana thinks anyone cares about him,” she wrote, triggering an obscenity riddled response from the rapper attacking her appearance and ridiculing her “nappy” box braids.

“U musty crusty dusty rusty ass hoe With them nappy ass poetic justice braids take your cum drinking Dick banging ass somewhere n be humble,” French responded.

Social media was not having it. Several people on Twitter hopped to defend the young lady in the rapper’s mentions.

Some French Montana fans swiftly threw on their capes to come to his defense, saying the girl shouldn’t have tweeted about him if she didn’t want to be attacked.

Of course, plenty of people tweet about their distaste for celebrities. Did Montana really need to attack this young lady’s appearance, call her a “hoe” [sic] and make sexually suggestive and demeaning comments? The reaction seems disproportionate, to say the least.

After getting a nice little dragging on social media, French attempted to smooth things over by saying he was just trying to defend himself and that he couldn’t possibly engage in antiblackness because he was married to a black woman with whom he had a son. But proximity to black people, having sex with black people, or even being black doesn’t mean you can’t be, do, or say something that is antiblack.

Again, noting his black ex-wife and African mother, he reiterated in another tweet that he was just defending himself and apologized if he “affended [sic] anyone.” He claimed he was “minding his own business” and lamented his name was being dragged “thru the mud” as a result of his comments.

Ironically, after this display of casual misogyny, and participating in a system that still penalizes women of color from wearing their natural hair, Montana urged his followers to #staywoke.

But some folks still aren’t buying his apology.

Controversial as his comments were, at least we learned that attacking black women for their hairstyles is a tradition enjoyed by some men of many ethnicities — whether you’re conservative pundit Bill O’Reilly, radio host Don Imus, or rapper French Montana.
