We Ranked the New Diet Coke Flavors So You Don’t Have To

Before you subject your tastebuds to the weird and wonderful new foods and drinks going viral on Instagram, check out Brit + Co’s reviews on First Bite, our series where we tell you if they are truly snack-tastic or totally terrible.

If you can’t start your day without a Diet Coke, your morning routine is about to get a fruity makeover. This year Coca-Cola launched two new flavors: Diet Coke Strawberry Guava and Diet Coke Blueberry Acai ($1 each or $4 for a pack of 8 12-oz cans), which join 2018’s Diet Coke’s Ginger Lime, Twisted Mango, Zesty Blood Orange, and Feisty Cherry. There is a caveat. The new line means Diet Coke classics like Cherry, Vanilla, Lemon, and Lime are now discontinued. Could these new flavors make up for the loss? We tried each and ranked them from worst to best.

7. DIET COKE TWISTED MANGO

Compared to the other new flavors, the mango scent and flavor isn’t that pronounced. In fact, it’s more peachy than mango-y, and all that flavor is entirely in the aftertaste.

6. DIET COKE BLUEBERRY ACAI

The blueberry will hit your tastebuds hard, however the acaí isn’t noticeable. If anything, the beverage is just a little tart. This one has mixed reviews; either you’ll love it or want to leave it.

5. DIET COKE STRAWBERRY GUAVA

The soda smells strawberry-forward and tropical with caramel notes of Diet Coke. Despite its aroma, the soda tastes more like guava than strawberry, which is refreshing. It isn’t our favorite, but we would drink this soda again.

4. DIET COKE ZESTY BLOOD ORANGE

This flavor is more in our cola comfort zone. We love the taste of citrus and Diet Coke, and since Diet Coke Lemon and Diet Coke Lime are currently no more, this works as a substitute. This drink has a strong orange scent, which reminds us of those dark chocolate orange candies. The taste is juicy and bright.

3. DIET COKE GINGER LIME

We like this citrus flavor a little more than the Zesty Blood Orange. The drink has a more pronounced lime than ginger taste. We recommend this concoction for a stomachache.

2. DIET COKE FEISTY CHERRY

This is a nice upgrade to the classic Diet Coke Cherry we remember. Instead of a sugary cherry flavor, Fiesty Cherry has more of a dark cherry juicy taste, which we love. This is hands down our favorite out of the new Diet Coke flavors.

1. REGULAR DIET COKE

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it right? Especially if you’re a Diet Coke-a-day type of person, you’re most likely going to like the OG flavor the best. The only change that has been made to DC is this new, sleek can design, but inside, the contents are the same. That’s a good thing because we all remember what happened the last time Coca Cola tried to change its recipe.
