The library started events on Saturday, May 4th with three events: a Star Wars May the Fourth event, a Mother’s Day event, and a Free Comic Book day event.

Amy Stover, Director of the Raleigh County Public Library, said they try and celebrate children’s books all year round. Stover said participation has been good at the events.

“Well, throughout the week, we’re keeping with our standard story times. For the two and unders, it’s Tuesday at 10:30. For olders, we have our Discovery Crew at one o’clock on Tuesday, and we have our story time for the two to six on Wednesdays at 10:30 or one o’clock in the afternoon,” said Stover. “And there is a Slime Time Flower Power reading series on Saturday at noon.”

Stover said participation has been good at the events. She hopes more children show up to the other events scheduled as well.

There was a Lego Creation contest Monday, May 6th where children were encouraged to come in and create something out of their favorite books with Legos.

National Children’s Book Week is May 6th through May 11th.
