"Racist Graffiti" Left By Vandals On Utah Ski Lift

Skiing should be fun. That's why we give it all up, 3 out of 4 seasons, to enjoy winter snow. As freeskiing pioneer Shane McConkey once said, "I'll be poor for the rest of my life to have fun."

Unfortunately, some people choose to cause trouble instead of work hard these other seasons, including ten individuals who vandalized Outlaw Mid-Station at Sundance Resort over the summer.

The Utah County Sheriff department reported that "On 6/9/23 ten people went to the Outlaw Mid-Station lift at Sundance Resort and destroyed two fire extinguishers and wrote racist graffiti on the structure. A nearby cabin was burglarized causing $15k in damage."

The ten people are both male and female, and appear to be young adults, although it is hard to tell from the low-quality lift cam. It is unknown if the ten people are locals who live nearby, short-term visitors, skiers of the resort, or something else.

Because detectives believe the two incidents are related, people are encouraged to call the Utah County Sheriff department if you know them or have information regarding the incidents.

Sundance Resort is located beneath Mount Timpanogos, and offers night skiing.

This event is particularly saddening considering the birth of Sundance in 1969, when Robert Redford bought the land and envisioned a harmony between art, nature, and community.

Luckily, the act of a small group of people does not reflect the larger community, so I hope everyone at Sundance is joining together to keep the happier dream alive despite the negative news.
