Rachel Lee, the Supposed Mastermind of The "Bling Ring" Burglars, Gives First Interview in New HBO Documentary

HBO has debuted the trailer for The Ringleader: The Case of the Bling Ring, the upcoming documentary featuring the first-time interview with Rachel Lee, the alleged criminal mastermind that led the infamous "Bling Ring" burglars.

Directed by Erin Lee Carr, known for her I Love You, Now Die: The Commonwealth V. Michelle Carter and The Heart of Gold: Inside The USA Gymnastics Scandal, The Ringleader "examines the motivations of Lee and a group of her friends" who targeted and robbed the houses of high-profile celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Brian Austin Green and Megan Fox, Lindsay Lohan, Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom, Audrina Patridge and Rachel Bilsen in 2008 and 2009, as well as explore "the possible reasons behind her actions including mental health issues and addictions, as well as the climate of celebrity excess that fueled the teens, recontextualizing the events behind the sensational headlines."

Lee, who was 19 years old at the time, was branded by her co-defendants and former friends as the ringleader of the group. She and the six other ring members stole an estimated $3 million USD in cash and items — much of it from Hilton — and Lee was sentenced to four years in prison. She was released in March 2013 and has led a low profile since then.
