Rachel Brosnahan and Oscar Isaac to Star in a Revival of The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window

The hit Amazon Prime show The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel may be ending its run after its in-the-works fifth season, but the show's star Rachel Brosnahan shows no signs of slowing down. Today, the actress announced on her Instagram that she'll be starring alongside Oscar Isaac in a new revival of Lorraine Hansberry's 1964 play The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window.

"So excited to finally be able to share this news. Come see us at @bam_brooklyn starting in February!" she wrote, along with an image of the Playbill announcement of the show.

The show, under the direction of Anne Kaufman, will premiere at the Brooklyn Art Museum’s Harvey Theater on February 23, 2023, per the Hollywood Reporter. Centered on Sidney (Isaac) and Iris Brustein (Brosnahan), married artists in the 1960s-era Greenwich Village, the original Broadway production of the play starred Gabriel Dell and Rita Moreno. It marked Hansberry's second staged production (following her famous A Raisin in the Sun) and also the last during her life—the playwright passed away in 1965 at the age of 34.

While the role will mark a departure from the comedic styling of her character, Midge, on Maisel, Brosnahan has been looking forward to the chance to branch out. “I feel like I’ve been told for a long time to pick a lane and stay in it,” she told T&C in our October cover story. When asked what she hopes for her career, she pointed to actresses like Frances McDormand and Emma Thompson, explaining, "I admire how versatile they are and how they continue to push themselves and take risks. It feels like they never do the same thing twice. I would be thrilled if my career gave me the same opportunity.”
