Rachel Brosnahan Just Reminded You to Vote in the Midterms During Her Acceptance Speech at Tonight’s Emmys

Rachel Brosnahan-aka Midge in Amazon's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel-just took home the Emmy for lead actress in a comedy series at tonight’s ceremony.

"One of the things I love most about the show is that it's about a woman who's finding her voice anew," Brosnahan said in her acceptance speech tonight. So make like Midge and "vote, show up, and a bring a friend to the polls."

The competition in this year’s category was-wait for it-no joke. The other funny ladies who were up for tonight’s big prize: Pamela Adlon (Better Things), Allison Janney (Mom), Issa Rae (Insecure), and Tracee Ellis Ross (Black-ish).

This is yet another win for Brosnahan, whose already crowded trophy case includes a Golden Globe Award and a Critics’ Choice Television Award-all for her starring role in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Not so bad for a suddenly single, totally underestimated housewife circa 1958, no?

The Amy Sherman-Palladino-helmed series is set to return for its second season later this year. Last time we were on the Upper West Side, Midge (Brosnahan) found her calling on the standup comedy stage. A makeup counter girl by day, and a struggling but damn talented comic by night, Midge sets out to defy societal expectations (and sexist assholes, too), alongside her lovably grumpy manager Susie (Alex Borstein), by making people laugh.

And next season, she’s hitting the road with Susie. See you in Paris!
