Rachel Bilson on Her Biggest Beauty Regret and Simple Skin-Care Routine

You probably watched her on The OC, and now Rachel Bilson is back with a starring role on Nashville.

Rachel Bilson has a lot going on right now. She wrapped up her starring role on CW's Hart of Dixie two years ago (If you've never seen the hilarious show, go binge watch it on Netflix right now), she had a baby (Briar Rose with husband Hayden Christensen), and now she's jumping into another starring role on Nashville after its move to CMT. I for one and very excited to see her back on the small screen. I've been a fan of Bilson's ever since she played Summer Roberts on The O.C. from 2003-2007, and while I've always thought she was a hilarious comedic actress, I've also been obsessed with her laid-back, cool-girl beauty look that seems actually attainable. She seems like the kind of girl you want to grab a drink with and talk about all her favorite beauty products and how she makes her skin look so glow-y. That's basically what I was able to do recently but sadly, without a drink.

What’s your skin-care routine when you’re working?

I always make sure my face is hydrated when I’m going to be on camera. My skin is especially dry now so I like to use Murad Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisture or sometimes Kate Somerville. After being on set, I always take my makeup off as soon as I can. I like to use Comodynes Sensitive Skin makeup remover towelettes{. I then use face wash and lotion.

Do you wear any makeup when you're home and not on set?

When I’m home and not going somewhere I never wear makeup — just ChapStick. (Bilson is a spokesperson for the brand.)

Would you rather leave the house not doing your brows or not wearing mascara?

Not doing my brows. I actually don’t ever do my brows.

What’s the one makeup product you really can’t live without?

I really like ChapStick Total Hydration Moisture + Tint because it gives your lips a little hint of color and you don’t have to put anything else on. My favorite shade is Rose Petal but I also sometimes mix that with the Merlot shade. You can just put that on and feel like you’re ready to go! In addition to ChapStick, I also tend to always have Q-tips and Chanel mascara with me at all times.

Do you have any beauty trend regrets?

Omg yes: Sun-In spray. It turned my hair half orange. It was not cute.

Is there a certain beauty trend you look back on that was your favorite?

Overall, I like to keep my looks very natural but like to go for a bold eye, if anything. My makeup artist suggested trying a cat-eye and I’m always happy to try what they suggest. I like that look and think it’s cool.

What’s one trend you would never do?

In general, I like to keep my look very natural. I totally respect what anyone wants to do in their own beauty routine but I prefer to stay away from doing things that could give me a fake look, like lip plumping or collagen. I prefer to keep it natural.

Describe your beauty philosophy.

I like to keep it simple. I never do too much and feel that less is more.
