Celebrity chef Rachael Ray and her husband John Cusimano experienced a devastating fire at their New York home last summer. Rachael just gave an update on the rebuilding process and explained why seeing it being rebuilt has been difficult.

The Rachael Ray Show host gave the update during her show this week, as previously reported on by Entertainment Tonight. Rachael and John have been living in the guest home on the same property but gave viewers a look at the frame of their home as it's being worked on.

"This is the wall where I heard the fire climbing through," Rachael said as she showed her bedroom: "Last time I was here there was literally no roof."

Rachael and John later appeared on camera together, saying that they would be staying in the guest home until their home rebuilding was "done done." She also explained why it was easier to see the home gone following the fire, which began in the chimney than it was to see it starting to be rebuilt.

"John and I were discussing that somehow it was easier to just see it gone, and the hole in the ground that's our cellar is all that remained," she said in another video on her site. "It was kind of easier to take it not being there than to stand inside a frame and see everything white all around you because you then really notice…"

"What's missing," John said. Rachael added, "Which is everything."

But Rachael ended the YouTube video by saying that she and John wanted to share the video with viewers because they've been so supportive through the process.

"You're so kind and you've shared so much with us in your thoughts and your prayers and your very beautiful, very open and honest, letters," she said. "Thank you for letting us into your lives and trusting us."
