Raccoons Take Shelter in Arkansas State University Library
Where do raccoons go when they’re looking to get an education? The Dean B. Ellis Library at Arkansas State University, apparently!
One Sunday in late October, alumnus Codie Clark, a math tutor, spotted at least two raccoons on the third floor of the library while waiting for a student to arrive for a tutoring session. Clark told KAIT-TV that other students then cornered one raccoon.
“I’m at the ASU library and they have been invaded by raccoons on the third floor,” Clark wrote alongside a photo of one rather shocked-looking raccoon on Facebook (below). “I sat down to get ready to tutor Trig and did a double take.”
The school's facility management personnel reportedly humanely trapped the raccoons, and an animal rescuer released them back into the wild that night.

"Our facility management folks were alerted by the library staff and they came out last night and humanely trapped them,” Bill Smith, a communications official for the university, told Fox News. It turns out that they were just looking for shelter from the rain.
“With all the rain we have in the area, these streams that are near the library, then we have woods that are also near the library that rising water has driven some of the wild-life out,” he explained. "In this case, they weren’t just looking for higher ground, they were looking for some higher learning as well."
