R13’s “Double Back Shorts” Are Two Shorts Sewn Together

Sick of wearing just one pair of denim shorts? Why not wear two. If you’re shopping the brand R13, that might just be possible—and with minimal bulk—as the brand is selling what they call “Double Back Shorts.” Brought to our attention from Wednesday night’s The Late Show with James Corden, this summer staple is unlike any jean shorts we’ve ever seen, taking the re-done, patchwork trend to a level we weren’t sure was possible.

During his monologue, James referred to the item as “uniquely designed shorts that make the person wearing them look like they have two pairs on at once.” The effect is due to the second, longer back that is sewn right on top of what look to me an already existing full pair of denim cut-offs. Without the same DIY quality in front, though, the shorts literally look as though they’re suspended from the rear of the ones encircling your hips. James added that “they cost 100% of your dignity.”

Whether or not you love this look, they’re certainly going to cost you. About $565, to be exact. You can check them out on the brand’s website here. Shocking as the look may be, confusing denim trends have run the gamut, from jeans that totally zip into two to styles that boast knees made of clear PVC. Who knows—this could be the next one to hit it big.
