R’Bonney Gabriel Channels Mermaid Inspiration in Dramatic Custom Dress at Miss Universe 2023 Pageant
2022 Miss Universe R’Bonney Gabriel arrived for the 2023 Miss Universe pageant on Saturday in El Salvador, channeling mermaid-inspiration as she dazzled in a blue off-the-shoulder gown with a plated bodice, paillettes and skirt that created a fish-scale effect. Her look, designed by Gert-Johan Coetzee, was completed with her crown by Lebanese jewelry company Mouawad.
Mouawad has been the official jeweler for the Miss Universe Organization since 2019.
This year’s Miss Universe contestants modeled swimwear designed by Rubin Singer, as the Miss Universe Organization released its first collaborative merchandise line on Nov. 15 on missuniverse.com.
This summer, the Miss Universe pageant launched a skincare brand designed for women of diverse backgrounds with botanicals from all seven continents.
The 2023 Miss Universe pageant marked some major changes for the event, as the Miss Universe organization eliminated its age limit of 28 years old for contestants. This was also a groundbreaking year as the event welcomed two transgender women, a plus-size model and mothers.
The Miss Universe pageant streamed on Roku in English and via Telemundo in Spanish.
The 2023 Miss Universe pageant features contestants from 86 countries competing for the crown. Singer John Legend performed at the ceremony. Olivia Culpo and Jeannie Mai Jenkins served as the night’s hosts. The 2022 Miss Universe title holder is R’Bonney Gabriel of the USA. Clarisse Designs provided dresses for the contestants to wear for the opening numbers, and Jojo Bragais was the footwear sponsor.
