Quinton Aaron Defends 'Blind Side' Costar Sandra Bullock Amid Tuohy Family Drama
Following the bombshell accusation from The Blind Side inspiration Michael Oher, who claims that the heartwarming tale depicted in the award-winning film is a "lie," actor Quinton Aaron is stepping in to defend Sandra Bullock amid the backlash.
Aaron, who played Oher in the film, came to his co-star's defense, telling The New York Post, “We are living in a day and age where people are hell bent on pointing the blame on people and are just throwing things out there that’s wrong,”
“It’s like saying, ‘Let’s throw this person to the wolves.’"
He continued, “Sandra did nothing wrong. That’s my girl and she is going through a really tough time right now." He is assumedly referencing the death of her partner, Bryan Randall. "I really feel like they should leave her alone and stop trying to come at her.”
He also spoke with TMZ, noting, "She gave a brilliant performance. And that shouldn't be tarnished for something that had nothing to do with her."
After the form Ravens lineman filed a petition this week alleging that Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy fabricated his adoption for monetary gain, instead tricking him into agreeing to a conservatorship by claiming it was equivalent to adoption, Bullock, who portrayed the matriarch in the film, got wrapped up in the drama, with some calling for her Oscar to be revoked—or for her to relinquish it—and others criticizing her silence.
Oher is reportedly seeking to end the conservatorship and issue an injunction that will prevent the family from using his name and likeness for any purpose moving forward. He is also asking the couple to pay him his share of residuals from the hit film—which they have previously claimed earned them only a flat fee which they divided equally between Sean, Leigh Anne, their two children, and Oher, though the former NFL star says he never saw any of that money.
The couple's attorney, Martin Singer, told People that Oher threatened to "plant a negative story about them in the press unless they paid him $15 million," noting that this is far from the first time he's "attempted to run this play."
Tuohy previously addressed the situation, telling the Daily Memphian that the family is "devastated." He added, "It's upsetting to think we would make money off any of our children. But we're going to love Michael at 37 just like we loved him at 16," before clarifying that he and his wife did not make any money off of the movie.
