A Quick Refresher on Charlie Puth’s Full Dating History Over the Years

Aside from his catchy tunes (I dare you to tell me "We Don't Talk Anymore"doesn't still randomly play in your head!) and perfect pitch capabilities, Charlie Puth has pretty much always been known for his public romances...and public breakups for that matter. But all that is in the past now because the pop singer is fully engaged to Brooke Sansone (!!), a fellow New Jersey native who has apparently known the celeb for quite some time. 👀

Good because Charlie looks as though he's *cue Sydney Sweeney voice* never, ever been happier, but bad because it seems like your fav eyebrow-slit-donning musician is officially off the market. Brooke Sansone (2022-Present)

Kk, you're def gonna wanna grab a box (or two!) of Kleenex for this one. After a long run of basically radio silence re: Charlie's new romances following a string of pretty high-profile relationships, the singer finally confessed during an October 2022 interview with Howard Stern that he was seeing someone.

"[She's] someone that I grew up with," he revealed about the new person in his life, and even refrained from dishing her name. "She's always been very, very nice to me and I would assume that when times inevitably are hard in the future, because what is life without valleys and peaks, she would be there for me as well," he added.

Fast-forward a few months later, and on December 2, 2022, Charlie's Insta low-key broke the internet for a hot sec after he confirmed via a sweet b-day post that his secret girlfriend was none other than Brooke. Warning: Major cuteness incoming in 3, 2, 1...

Since then, the musician and the digital marketing and PR coordinator have posted tons of pics together—one of which was a full-on engagement announcement!!!!

"I flew to New York to ask my best friend to marry me, and she said yes," Charlie gushed on Instagram when reflecting on the proposal. "I am the happiest, best version of myself and it is all because of you Brookie. I love you endlessly forever and ever and ever."

Btw, due to our ridiculously good Instagram stalking sleuthing skills, we also found out that Brooke actually attended high school in Red Bank, NJ, which is right next to Rumson (aka where Charlie is from), soooooo that's likely how the two first got acquainted with each other. TL;DR: true love always finds its way, people!

Charlotte Lawrence (2019)

Charlie was first linked to the fellow singer-songwriter in February 2019 once the rumor mill started b-u-z-z-i-n-g after the celebs were spotted together several times during New York Fashion Week.

Then, only a few weeks later, Charlie put the rumors to rest via a since-deleted Valentine's Day Instagram post that read "Happy valentine's day" and showcased a cute pic of himself with his arm around the singer. In response, Charlotte hopped in the comments section and simply posted a heart emoji.

Sadly, the couple ultimately didn't last, though it remains unclear when exactly they split up. However, what we do know is that in September 2019, Charlie definitely set the record straight via Twitter when he wrote, "Only because I want people to stop asking the question....Yes I am single now...and please don't believe everything you read...thank you."

Now, based on the rules of girl math, unless Charlie dated someone else privately in 2019, Charlotte was likely the inspo behind the 31-year-old's emotional breakup anthem, "That's Hilarious."

On March 23, 2022, before the song debuted, the musician took to TikTok to speak about how he created it and got emotional when reflecting on the relationship that inspired it. "I’m really excited for the song to come out, but every time I hear it, I’m kind of brought back to a time that was really, really, really challenging in my life," he began in the vid before affing that, "It just rears its ugly head every time—sorry—every time that I hear it."

The "Attention" singer then continued, "I'm also really excited for you to hear it—but I just heard the master and it brought me back to 2019 which was the worst f*cking year of my life. I never told people what happened to me and the pain that I went through, going through the worst breakup of my life in 2019. I just wanted to throw it under the carpet and just start over and surround myself with better people."

Fighting through his tears, the musician then ended on a more positive note: "This is the hardest song that I ever had to put together, and I'm so excited for you to hear it, OK? So, thank you."

Halston Sage (2018)

In September 2018, Charlie and the Prodigal Son actor shared a number of 👀 pics like this and this on Instagram, which obvi almost immediately sparked rumors that the duo was more than just friends.

Over the next couple of weeks, Charlie and Halston continued to be spotted out and about together at a number of public events before ultimately fizzling out shortly thereafter.

Danielle Campbell (2017)

Hollywood Life reported in October 2017 that Charlie and Danielle seemed to be secretly dating after the singer posted (then immediately deleted) a screenshot of himself FaceTiming the actor. Plus, eagle-eyed fans also noticed that the singer had been commenting on Danielle's pics *and* the fact that she followed the singer and his siblings, Stephen and Mikaela, at the time.

And the cherry on top of all the suspicions? A subsequent October 12 interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in which Charlie confirmed that he was "in a relationship" but was "done with dating people in the public."

However, in the time since, neither Charlie nor Danielle have ever publicly confirmed the brief romance.

Bella Thorne (2016-2017)

'Kay, so Charlie and Bella never had a long-term 'ship, but the singer *did* accidentally accuse her of cheating with her ex, Tyler Posey. Basically, it was kinda sorta a big misunderstanding that turned into an entire ~thing~, which we're gonna get into because we live for drama journalism.

Back in 2017, Bella went on SiriusXM’s The Jenny McCarthy Show to set the record straight on what really happened with Charlie and dished, "I hung out with him twice. We went to the movies. He was cool." "I was like, 'Wow, you’re really talented. Holy sh*t. You’re f*cking great, dude.' And then he invited me to Jingle Ball to watch him perform," the actor continued. (Btw, this was only weeks after the two were spotted holding hands while on a Miami beach stroll in December 2016.)

But upon being spotted together at Jingle Ball 2016—after which rumors that the celebs were dating continued to swirl—, Charlie stumbled upon an old article about Bella and Tyler's relationship without noticing the date and felt as though he had intruded on their 'ship.

Things quickly escalated, and the singer posted a string of since-deleted Tweets, including one that read, "I don't know Tyler personally, but I know he shouldn't be treated this way." Almost immediately, Bella took to her own social media to clear things up and wrote, "Ty and I have been broken up for like over two weeks and charlie and I ARENT DATING we are friends. That article was written forever ago."

In that later July 2017 SiriusXM interview, the Disney Channel alum also added that the whole thing could have easily been avoided had Charlie just reached out to her directly: "Charlie saw an old news article, and he didn't look at the date, and the date is old, and it's about me and Ty. I felt super bad." The more you know!

Selena Gomez (2016)

It's unclear how long Charlie and Selena dated, but we do know that she was the inspiration behind his iconic song "We Don't Talk Anymore." And if you thought that my mentioning it was an excuse to watch the music vid together, then you'd be right!

"I don’t kiss and tell, but the only way a song like that can come across as real is if there’s something else going on behind the scenes," the singer mused when opening up about the track with Billboard. "And that’s what was happening [with Selena]. Very short-lived, very small, but very impactful. And it really messed me up…And she evoked such good emotion on that song, it was a pleasure working with her. That’s why I’m always happy to sing it, even though it came from a dark point in my life," he added.

Interestingly enough, Charlie also noted that one of the reasons the relationship between the two of them didn't work out was because of a certain someone else in Sel's life (*cough* *cough* Justin Bieber, perhaps?): "I'm trying to put this the best way possible: It wasn't like I was the only person on her mind."
