Quick! Now's the Time to Plant "Magic Lilies"

Soaking up as much time as you can in your garden this summer? We're with you.

While you may have hydrangeas and azaleas galore, there's one more flower we love adding to our yard's bounty—and now's the season to plant them. Say hello to the lavender-pink wonder that is the magic lily, more formally referred to as Lycoris squamigera. (You may also know these gorgeous blooms as the resurrection lily or surprise lily.)

As House Beautiful recently revealed, now's the ideal time to plant the bulbs, with the sweet spot falling somewhere between August and October—depending on what gardener you ask. Following planting, the flowers take a season to "settle in and bloom," as writer Elizabeth Gulino puts it. They're well worth the time waiting though, since they'll be a boon for your backyard, not only for their beauty, but also for their ability to help attract hummingbirds and butterflies to your space.
