The Queen’s Daughter-in-Law Sophie Wessex Says She’s “Been Amazing” Following Prince Philip’s Death

Queen Elizabeth’s daughter-in-law Sophie Wessex (who’s married to Prince Edward) has spoken out about how the monarch is faring in the wake of Prince Philip’s death on Friday. Speaking to Sky News correspondent Rhiannon Mills as she and Edward left Windsor Castle on Saturday, Sophie said that “the Queen has been amazing.”

Sophie’s comment comes amid Prince Philip’s children paying tribute to him in a series of interviews for the BBC. In the below video, a visibly emotional Princess Anne says, “I think I will best remember him as always being there and a person you could bounce off ideas, but if you were having problems, you could always go to him,” while Prince Charles says Prince Philip’s “energy was astonishing in supporting my mama and doing it for such a long time,” adding, “I think he’ll probably want to be remembered as an individual in his own right.”

Buckingham Palace announced Prince Philip’s passing in a statement yesterday morning, saying that the royals are mourning his loss:

“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty the Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness the Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss. Further announcements will be made in due course.”

The Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral service is expected to take place next weekend and will likely be private. Prince Harry is said to be making every effort to fly in from California and has reportedly spoken to Prince Charles as well as his cousins Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice, as he remains “united in grief” with the royal family.
