The Queen Reportedly Isn’t Letting Palace Staff Get Involved in the Sussexes’ Interview Response

The Queen is reportedly taking personal charge of the fallout from Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Oprah interview and has forbidden palace staff from getting involved. According to the Daily Mail, Queen Elizabeth II is planning to extend an olive branch directly to Meghan and Harry, and courtiers hope this direct approach will help to “detoxify” the situation.

So far, the royals haven’t said much publicly. The Queen issued an extremely brief statement via Buckingham Palace saying, “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan, and Archie will always be much loved family members.”

Meanwhile, Prince Charles smiled awkwardly when asked about the interview during a royal engagement. Most recently, Prince William was asked if the royal family is racist and replied on camera: “We’re very much not a racist family.”
