The Queen Puts Public Royal Duties on Hold "Indefinitely" Amid Coronavirus Pandemic
Queen Elizabeth is set to remain in quarantine for the foreseeable future, until it is safe to carry out public engagements again following the coronavirus pandemic.
The queen is isolating at Windsor Castle, and will reportedly stay there "indefinitely."
Buckingham Palace will remain closed to the public.
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed so many aspects of life for so many people, including members of the royal family.
Queen Elizabeth left Buckingham Palace for Windsor Castle in late March due to the coronavirus pandemic. She has stayed in isolation at the residence with Prince Philip throughout the crisis. And according to a new report in The Times, the queen "will remain at Windsor Castle indefinitely."
The Times revealed, "The queen is to withdraw from public life for months in what is expected to be the longest absence from official duties in her 68-year reign." Due to ongoing concerns regarding the coronavirus pandemic, it is safer for Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip to remain in isolation for the time being. However, royal fans are sure to miss the British monarch, who usually carries out a busy schedule of official engagements.
The publication also noted that all future royal engagements have been put on hold, "with plans for a state visit from South Africa in October up in the air." Meanwhile, Buckingham Palace remains closed to the general public, and popular events such as Trooping the Colour have been canceled due to safety concerns.
Despite having been in contact with Prince Charles, who has had coronavirus, Queen Elizabeth did not contract the condition.
