The Spanish Ministry of Culture has presented the Gold Medals of Merit in the Fine Arts to exemplary people and institutions in the arts and culture since 1969. This year’s event honored the 2022 medal recipients since the pandemic caused the 2020 honorees to be celebrated in 2022.
The Spanish royal family bestowed Alejandro Sancho, Victor Manuel, Santiago Auseron, and flamenco singer Dolores Montoya (of Lole y Manuel), among others, with awards. Past recipients include filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar, famed painters Salvador Dalí and Joan Miró and fashion designer Ana Locking.
About Magrit
Magrit is a Spanish luxury shoe brand that was founded in Alicante by José Amat in 1929 in the artisan tradition. N the mid-century, José’s son Manuel found inspiration in Parisian haute couture and also expanded their reach to Europe and America. Magrit’s legacy of well-made shoes for the well-heeled of Spain continues with the fourth generation, Pepe Amat. The brand specializes in heels that bridge the gap between on-trend and classic and also sells bags and bridal shoes.
Queen Letizia’s Shoe Style
The Spanish queen has worn the Magrit “Marian” before, as well as many other styles from the Spanish designer, including strappy sandals and heels. The slingback pump stiletto and the classic pump are her favorite shoe styles, which she has also worn from other designers, including Isabel Abdó and Carolina Herrera. She is not afraid of bringing a modern, trendy touch to her regal style, such as when she wore Martinelli “Blunt” chunky black loafers in March.
