Since she hit the royal scene, Meghan Markle has been bucking tradition and adding a fresh spin on traditional dressing. It turns out other royal families have noticed.
So, when Queen Letizia of Spain stepped out yesterday wearing an off-the-shoulder number reminiscent of the 37-year-old Duchess of Sussex’s pink Carolina Herrera gown from the 2018 Trooping the Colour, we were definitely paying attention. But Markle wasn’t the only royal the 46-year-old queen paid homage to. There was also a Kate Middleton element to her ensemble. Why? Well, because it was a surprisingly affordable look.
To hold audience at the Zarzuela Palace in Madrid, Queen Letizia wore a polished Zara tweed dress with gemstone buttons. Originally available for $90, the classic frock with a summer twist is now marked down to —wait for it—$30. In addition to a shockingly low price, the black, white and navy bounclé dress features a bateau neckline, short sleeves, piping, a frayed hem, jewel buttons and even pockets.
The mom of two belted her Zara find with a thin black belt to accentuate her waist and completed the look with navy pointed-toe Carolina Herrera Napa leather sling-back pumps ($355) and delicate gold hoop earrings. She also rocked a royal repeat, opting to accessorize with the sterling silver signature ring by Madrid-based jeweler Karen Hallam. The best part? Her go-to bauble is currently on sale for $100.
For her beauty look, Queen Letizia wore her layered lob in a voluminous blowout and accentuated her green eyes with her go-to aubergine eyeliner.
This isn’t the first time Queen Letizia has gone the affordable route or borrowed sartorial cues from Markle. In the past she’s worn Zara, as well as ASOS and Steve Madden. She also took a page out of the Duchess of Sussex’s playbook and wore an all black ensemble earlier this year.
Now if you’ll excuse us, we’re off to buy that Zara dress before it sells out.
