The Queen Just Wished Princess Charlotte a Happy Birthday with a Walk Down Memory Lane

Princess Charlotte is celebrating her fifth birthday in quarantine, and while the majority of the royal family can't physically join her in the festivities, they are still marking the occasion virtually. Case in point: Queen Elizabeth just wished her great-granddaughter a happy birthday on social media.

Sharing a series of throwback images on Twitter, the Queen wrote: "A very Happy Birthday to Princess Charlotte who is celebrating her 5th birthday today." She included a celebratory red balloon emoji and a recent portrait taken by mom Kate Middleton, in which Charlotte bears a striking resemblance to the 94-year-old monarch.

Fans couldn't get over how much Charlotte looks like the Queen as a child, dubbing the five-year-old her mini-me. However, we're getting major American Girl doll vibes from her birthday photo-op.

Despite being miles away on Charlotte's special day, the Queen is reportedly expected to attend the young royal's Zoom party on Saturday (May 2) — hosted by parents Kate and Prince William. "The family has arranged a Zoom party for her, so she can speak to family and friends, the queen included," a source told Express earlier this week.

"Then, they have put together a full plan that will give her all the fun of a birthday — including cake and games — despite the extraordinary circumstances we are faced with," the insider continued. "Her great-grandmother will be joining the family call on the big day. As far as Charlotte is concerned, the important part is that her whole family are by her side to say happy birthday. And you have to realize that she doesn’t know anything different — she’s grown up with tablets and video calls, so she won’t be fazed."
