Queen Elizabeth is gearing up to write her annual Christmas speech, and apparently, it hasn’t been the easiest task given everything going on with the royal family. Not only did her son Prince Andrew step away from royal responsibilities in the wake of a messy interview about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, but rumors of a feud between the Sussexes and the Cambridges have also been plaguing the royals for more than a year.

And apparently, it’s all been pretty hard on the queen. “We don’t know what the queen plans to say because we haven’t seen the speech yet,” a source told veteran royal reporter Katie Nicholl in Vanity Fair. “It’s still at a first-draft stage because of the election, but it probably hasn’t been the easiest speech to write. It has been a very difficult time behind the scenes, and morale is at a bit of a low.”

The queen is going through with her plans to host Christmas for the family in Sandringham, but Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will reportedly spend the holiday in Los Angeles with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland. Meanwhile, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, will be with the queen.

But still, the biggest controversy obviously has to do with Prince Andrew. According to Queen Elizabeth’s biographer Sally Bedell Smith, “The scandal around Prince Andrew has been deeply disturbing, and he will doubtless face more problems in the New Year, including pressure for his testimony under oath.” But clearly, that isn’t stopping the royals from showing their support, because Andrew is also spending the holidays at Sandringham and is “expected to join the royals for church on Christmas morning.”

Yikes.
