Queen Elizabeth's Nephew, the Earl of Snowdon, Announces Divorce
The Earl of Snowdon—son of the late Princess Margaret, and nephew to Queen Elizabeth—has announced his split from Serena, his wife of 26 years.
Serena and David Armstrong-Jones (as the Earl is also known) reached an "amicable" decision to end their marriage, a spokesman told CNN. "The Earl and Countess of Snowdon have amicably agreed that their marriage has come to an end and that they shall be divorced," the spokesman explained. "They ask that the press respect their privacy and that of their family."
David Armstrong-Jones is one of two children Margaret had with her onetime husband, photographer Antony Armstrong-Jones. He is best known for founding Linley furniture, under his professional name, David Linley.
David and Serena share two children: Viscount Linley, Charles Armstrong-Jones and Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones.
The Earl and Countess are the second royal couple to announce their separation in just a few days, after Peter and Autumn Phillips announced their intention to divorce this past Tuesday. (Royal watchers will know Peter Phillips as the grandson of Queen Elizabeth and son of Princess Anne.)
"After informing HM The Queen and members of both families last year, Peter and Autumn jointly agreed to separate," the couple said in a statement. "They had reached the conclusion that this was the best course of action for their two children and ongoing friendship."
Peter and Autumn will continue to co-parent their children, Savannah, nine, and Isla, seven. "Both Peter and Autumn will remain in Gloucestershire to bring up their two children where they have been settled for a number of years," their statement noted.
